Program Refund
Program refunds for all aquatic Programs and specialty classes must be processed during the first three weeks of the current session. Refunds will be calculated from the actual date of the request and will have a $10.00 administrative fee. After this date, only medical withdrawals will be accepted. A dated medical note will be required at the time of your request.
Programs for youth aspiring to be instructors

*Bronze Medallion
A program for those 13 and over or those that have Bronze Star. Lifesavers learn tows and carries, and defenses and releases in preparation for rescues of increased risk. Please submit a photocopy of your birth certificate or Bronze Star certification upon registration.
*Bronze Cross
Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite to this program. This is a required level for all advanced lifesaving levels offered by the Lifesaving Society. Please submit a photocopy of your prerequisites upon registration.
*Standard First Aid
This course includes Priority Assessment, Airway Management and CPR as well as treatments for various injuries and conditions including broken bones, burns, poisoning and allergic reactions. Course includes classroom time only.
Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard (pre-requisite for Lifeguard Course)
For participants who hold Bronze Cross Awards, this is a 4 hour course that teaches them how to use their lifesaving training as part of a rescue team.
*Red Cross Pool Lifeguard Training (pre-requisites: Assistant Lifeguard, Standard First Aid and must be 15 years of age)
Participants practice First Aid, Rescues and accident prevention in scenarios as well as "shadow" a lifeguard at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard (pre-requisite: Red Cross Pool Lifeguard)
Lifeguards learn how to perform rescues in open water.
National Lifeguard Courses
For those 16 years and over, a theoretical and practical course to develop necessary lifeguard skills. Bronze Cross and SFA required. Photocopies are required at registration.
Lifesaving Society Exams
We offer private lifesaving exams for Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross awards. Exams are set up pending pool space and examiner availability. Participants must recruit their own volunteers for rescues.
Assistant Water Safety Instructor (AWSI)
30 hr program (+8 hr teaching experience) for ages 15 and up
This course is a prerequisite of the Red Cross WSI Course. It covers the foundation of instructional skills including teaching methods, learning styles, physical principles, progressions, communication, safety supervision and feedback. Candidates are evaluated during 8 hours of assistant teaching and through individual study assignments. A certified AWSI can co-teach under the supervision of a fully certified WSI.
Preschool Instructor
The preschool instructor course will build on your knowledge about teaching from AWSI. In addition, this course will focus on toddler and preschool characteristics and the goals of the CGAC parented and preschool program.
*Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
25 hour program (+12 hr teaching experi ence) for 16 years and up (pre-requisite: AWSI)
This course further develops the instructional ability by focusing on how to apply the information learned in the AWSI Course to effectively plan and teach the Red Cross Swim programs. Candidates apply their skills during the 12 hour of practical teaching experience. Upon completion candidates are certified to teach all Red Cross Water Safety programs.
