The goal of the Community Access Program (CAP) is to ensure all members of our community are able to access the wellness and recreation opportunities available at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
Recognizing many in our region face significant financial challenges, it is understood that those struggling to make ends meet are not in a position to afford costs associated with recreational activities. The Saint John area has a poverty rate of 18.5%, which increases to 28.3% in the urban core immediately surrounding the Canada Games Aquatic Centre (Source: New Brunswick’s 2022 Child Poverty Report Card; Human Development Council).
Having access to recreation activities and opportunities to engage in physical activity is essential to the physical and mental wellness of the community. Participating in the many activities available at the facility also contributes to social determinants of health and overall quality of life by providing opportunities for connection with one’s community.
All costs associated with the administration of this program are covered under the facility’s existing operating budget. This means 100% of funds raised through donations, grants, and other fundraising initiatives will go directly to supporting members of the community.
The Saint John Aquatic Center Commission is a registered charity and, as such, is able to issue charitable tax receipts when applicable.
