CGAC Renewal and Temporary Closure
The Canada Games Aquatic Centre remains open and operating. A temporary closure will be required to complete a major facility renewal that will improve accessibility and energy efficiency, modernize the building, and prepare CGAC for the 2029 Canada Games and future generations.
Recent public messaging referred to an October closure. October was an earlier planning assumption and is no longer current. Based on the latest information available, the temporary closure is now anticipated to begin in late December; however, an exact date has not been finalized.
Remaining project requirements include formal confirmation and announcement of federal funding and an additional costing phase being completed by the construction manager and architect. This work will help confirm the project scope, costs, and construction schedule.
CGAC is also working with its partners to maintain community services where possible during the renovation period. Current planning includes continued beach operations, options for aquatic lessons and programming, and temporary arrangements for fitness, massage therapy, and physiotherapy services.
We recognize that the changing timeline and recent public messaging have caused confusion. CGAC is committed to providing timely and accurate updates as project details are confirmed.
